Marine Oil Spill

Development of a Regional Flow and Contaminant Transport Model for the Marine Area Impacted by Kuwait Oil Spills in the Persian Gulf

The Persian Gulf War I led to the environmental degradation of many types. Of them the oil spill in the Gulf caused substantial damage to the marine lives and environment. It has been concluded that the oil spill in this water body was the largest oil spill in the world's history. The oil spill continued for a long time causing residual oil that was found in a grayish layer just below the surface of the beaches. Oil also seeped into sand and oozes out at high tides making its way into the sea. A tool is being developed that can predict, with reasonable accuracy, the presence of oil constituents in different location of the marine area impacted by Kuwait oil spills.
